If you turn the volume on your computer on, and then look in the upper righthand corner of this site, you will see one of the funniest commercials I've ever seen. In particular, I really like listening to the guy's voice when he talks about 'national tragedy,' because of the way he has to carefully balance solemn respect and enough excitement to keep the listener in 'buy stuff' mode.*
Also, I sort of want to buy one.

*This was not deserving of a spoiler alert.

Ron Paul's diag appearance conflicts with the Jeff Toobin thing at Borders, so I guess I'll have to wait a little longer to see someone run for president.
If you have the time (and access), you should read Ex Parte Medellin (the 2006 one). The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals goes through the most hilarious contortion to claim that President Bush is acting at the low ebb of Justice Jackson's Executive Power. They go through some fun hoops to disregard an executive order. The appeal is being argued in front of the US Supreme Court tomorrow at 10.
I was amused.

I hadn't listened to this song in awhile. Every once in awhile I hear it again. I've known it for a long time, but it strikes me how whenever I hear it, it's very good, very relevant, and its ideas are very valuable.
Politics

Of interest, possibly, to some I know: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/06/08/campaigns_mean_jobs_for_college_grads/

Almost 2 weeks ago, I said that I thought I knew who was going to be the Republican nominee. In a similar vein to that revelation, today was the day that John McCain lost his role as a contender. He had been well known for always being the candidate who would answer questions, Straight Talk Express and all. Yesterday (Or today, I don't know), he wouldn't answer questions about how he felt about the immigration bill dying. I'm sure he was very sincere, that he honestly didn't have anything to say about it, but I think it signals the end.

Bret, at some point, I'd it if you could take the time to explain the Alternative Minimum Tax to me. It seems important, and I don't understand it, and I bet you do. Thanks.

max

A conclusion I reach, when I set aside all frames
First, of course, all the normal things I disclaim
But when you tally the factors that create a nominee
The inevitable result is that it will be Romney

I hope I am not sick

I go to Dunking Donuts sometimes for coffee. They ask "Cream and Sugar?" and I say "Yes." Then, a few minutes later, I have coffee. The coffee always has a strange taste, and they never let you see them put it in the cup, but it always looks like they're doing something more complex than adding cream and sugar, which makes me think that they are added via magic. That makes it harder to explain the sugar grains on my cup tonight, though.
There are some games that I never played, but wanted to play, solely because the cuts scenes from them used in AMVs looked cool. There is one in particular that's doing it to Kingdom Hearts II, right now.
Pirates wasn't great, but was better than expected, especially if you ignore the first half, which didn't appear to even be trying to make sense. Also, there were themes, which is always nice.
You have to understand why you're doing something.
I should give Matt Stoker a call.

max

Things (I did nothing worthwhile today)

I first got command and conquer: Generals for hannukkah in 2003. After a series of mishaps, I installed it today, and played it.
It's terrible.
1. the gameplay is bad: left click moves or tells your troops to attack. To select something new (in any other game, it would be left clicking), you have to right click somewhere on the screen (if you do it on the minimap, it doesn't work), then left click on the unit you want to select. That is the one example I have for you, there are others.
2. Gameplay is slow: everything moves very, very slowly. you can't speed it up. There are long, uninteresting, uninformative cut scenes, which cannot be skipped, no matter how many times you've seen them.
3. Gameplay is stupid: Once, I had like 20 of my guys around the enemy barracks. I most games, they would attack it, seeing as it's an aggressive enemy building. They don't in this game, they'll just sit there. If one of your units is being shot at, the units around it won't come to it's aid in any way.
4. None of this is adjustable: I can't change the controls, I can't even find the screen that tells me what the hotkeys are.
5. The bright side: Once I started playing GLA, it was a little better. The music got better, too.

I went driving today, and somehow found Seaholm. I had always thought it was somewhere else. Learn something new everyday.
There was a donut related incident.
I miss law school people. I actually just miss everyone, but I clearly, consciously miss law school people.
I'm going on a dry run of the drive downtown tomorrow. I hope it works: I need to find a place to park for free, for 3 months, walking distance from where I work.

max

I spent a lot of time walking today

There is a phrase that people use, "I see what you did there." It seems pretty self-explanatory, but from how I've seen it used, there seems to be another layer there, one I have not yet cracked. If anyone is in a mood to enlighten, I would appreciate the help.
Royal Oak is an unpleasant place: confusing in its geography, and overpopulated in its number of people there, in the parts I want to be in. It can be fun to be in, though, it has a coney island and many places to eat ice cream. The bad ice cream place closed. Maybe I'll go back someday.
I had completely given up on Linkin Park ever putting out another album of new material, but they were on television tonight. Their new music seems.....incredibly similar to the old music.
I think my mom might finally get cable internet, which will make it easier for me to get news from the outside world.
Tomorrow is the final push on my work this week, then I'll be done. I'm going to try to make it out to Ann Arbor this week, because I haven't seen people in awhile.
That's pretty much it for right now.

max

I had heard of Reza Aslan before, but couldn't have told you who he was.
If you missed the interview, you should find it on the internet. It was very, very, very interesting.
Also, for Bret, the episode opened with a Baltimore joke, though by telling you that, I've already ruined the punchline.
I found this pretty interesting. I think I learned the skill of not being creative a while back, when it really felt like a survival skill.
